In 1702 when John and Ann Parker built their house overlooking Rydal Water they chose their spot well. facing south and commanding a superb view of the lake with the slopes of Loughrigg beyond, their chosen outlook has remained virtually unaltered to this day.
Midway between Ambleside and Grasmere on the A591, Nab Cottage is right in the heart of the Lake District.
Our long drive affords ample parking for your car which can be safely left while you explore the superb walks which are immediately accessible from the house.

Those interested in the literary and historical associations of the area would find staying at Nab Cottage a great pleasure. Not only is it very near to the famous houses of William Wordsworth - Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount - it was also for some eleven years the home of Hartley Coleridge, and the famous essayist Thomas De Quincey often visited the Nab during his courtship of Margaret Simpson who was to become his wife.
Our house retains the informal and welcoming atmosphere of times gone by. So many of our guests return year after year - many revisiting the house where they stayed as children years ago.
