Picture Wheatleys in Painswick, Gloucestershire, South West England
Picture Wheatleys in Painswick, Gloucestershire, South West England Painswick is a beautiful old Cotswold village (or town - Painswickians still can't quite agree) with silver-grey stone buildings and terraced gardens all clustered in a maze of winding streets. Last year Painswick celebrated the 750th anniversary of its Royal Charter.

At its heart lies Saint Mary's Church with its distinctive 'table-top' tombs and the 99 yew trees sculpted into arches and avenues. Local tradition has it that the Devil always kills the one hundredth tree!

Directions
Wheatleys is located in the Cotswolds, in the Gloucestershire village of Painswick on the A46 Stroud - Cheltenham road. Painswick is 3 miles north-east of Stroud, 8 miles south-east of Gloucester and 12 miles south-west of Cheltenham. The nearest motorway is the M5. From Birmingham and the north, leave on Junction 11A, take the A417 towards Cirencester and then turn off immediately onto the A46 to Brockworth, Stroud and Painswick. From Bristol and the south-west, leave the M5 on Junction 13 for the A419 to Stroud. At Stroud, join the A46 and follow signs to Cheltenham and Painswick. From London and the M4, the simplest route is to leave the M4 at Junction 15 for the A419 to Swindon and Cirencester. At Cirencester, go North on the A417 towards Gloucester until reaching the junction with the A46 at Brockworth, where you turn left towards Stroud and Painswick.

Wheatleys lies about 400m south of the village centre, the second house on the right in Cotswold Mead, a private road off the A46. Cotswold Mead is the first on the right when entering Painswick from Stroud (or the last on the left coming from Cheltenham).
