Picture Morven House in Carnoustie, Angus, Southern Highlands Morven House is a Georgian mansion house located on the south side of Carnoustie in three acres of private walled grounds. There is ample off road parking and the property and grounds are illuminated when dark for your safety and added security. The property has been extensively modernised including en-suite facilities, double glazing and central heating. Where possible the original Georgian features have been retained.
The property was built in 1808 for Captain John Borrie, a wealthy Jute Baron who traded with the West Indies from the nearby port of Dundee. In the 1800’s the local economy was dependant on three major sources of income, Jute, Jam and Journalism. Only Journalism remains as a major industry. D. C. Thomson are perhaps not the most well known newspaper publishers but many children will know of their leading titles, The Beano and The Dandy. Directions
From Dundee take the A92 Arbroath/Montrose road and drive for approximately 10 miles. You will be travelling east, north east with the coast line on your right. For reassurance you will see Broughty Ferry, Monifieth and Barry all signposted to your right. After the Barry sign the next town will be Carnoustie which is also on the right. Turn right and continue along the road for 11/4 miles, you will pass a farm and buildings on the right and a park on the left. Slow at this point and as the park fence finishes and the road starts to descend into Carnoustie the Morven is immediately on the right before the road junction.
If you arrive in Carnoustie via the coast road you will travel through Broughty Ferry, Monifieth and Barry. In this case look for the Stags Head public house in Carnoustie itself and turn left at the junction. The Morven is the large mansion house at the top of the hill. From the north you will travel through Arbroath on the A92, look for the second Carnoustie sign and follow the instructions above from the A92. A train service is available from both north and south. When arriving at Carnoustie station just give us a call and we will come and collect you.
