Picture Garemount Lodge in Shandon, Argyll and Bute, Southern Highlands Fifty minutes drive south brings you to Glasgow, or you could take the train from Helensburgh which has a half-hourly service (you can also change trains at Glasgow for Edinburgh which run every quarter of an hour).
Glasgow has a wealth of museums, art galleries, Victorian architecture, theatres, restaurants, plus excellent shopping.

Alternatively, an hour's drive to the north east brings you to the scenic beauty of the Trossachs and Loch Katrine. Also an hour away is the historic town of Stirling with its famous castle and William Wallace monument, and the Blair Drummond wild-life park is close by.

Driving fifty minutes northwest brings you to Inveraray with its Victorian Jail, now a historic tourist attraction, and also the Castle, home of the Duke of Argyll. From there you could drive to Oban and catch a ferry to one of the islands.

If you want something more energetic, take a walk up the hill behind Garemount Lodge to the Shandon Country Pursuits where you can enjoy clay pigeon shooting, off-road driving, quad biking, fishing, or archery. Or you could play a round of golf at Helensburgh or Cardross Golf Clubs, or try your hand at sailing on the Gareloch.

Take a picnic into Glen Fruin, five minutes drive away, and soak up the atmosphere of former clan battles. A few minutes drive further on will bring you to the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, past the international Golf Club, and on to the picturesque village of Luss where the TV series "High Road" was filmed.
The area is Scotland’s first National Park and you can get all the information you require at the National Park Gateway Centre at Balloch. Whilst you’re there visit Drumkinnon Tower, a new visitor attraction with Imax cinema and amazing views over Loch Lomond, alongside the shops of Loch Lomond Shores.

At Garemount Lodge, as well as the sailing boats, you might even get to see a submarine glide down the loch on its way to the Clyde Submarine Base, half a mile away.

During the summer months there are a variety of events in the area – agricultural shows, Highland Games, pipe band competitions, sheepdog trials, international golf competitions, and sailing regattas. Enjoy!
