We are delighted you have chosen our beautiful cottage, which has been awarded an excellent 4 star rating by VisitBritain, for your stay in the historic capital of ancient Cleveland.

Located on Northgate, two minutes from the town centre and XII Century Priory ruins, the property is a former miner’s cottage, completely refurbished to a superb quality whilst at the same time retaining original features.

We endeavour to provide the highest quality affordable accommodation to meet and, indeed, exceed the demands of the most discerning traveller or tourist to our beautiful part of the country. Wherever possible we use ecologically friendly products, cooperate fully with the local authority recycling scheme and also include within our welcome pack locally produced items.

Sleeping four, Argument Cottage is an ideal base for exploring not only Cleveland’s ancient capital Guisborough but also the surrounding areas, including -the North York Moors National Park, Captain Cook Country, Heartbeat Country, the Cleveland Way Walk, Whitby, many other coastal villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay- and much more.

Recently we upgraded our facilities to achieve the VisitBritain Walkers and Cyclists Welcome accreditation and are part of the regional pilot for Green Tourism with an assessment for the award due in February.

The cottage is entered via two steps directly from Northgate. The lounge area with bay window accommodates one leather three seat sofa, one leather recliner chair, coffee table, radiator, free standing double lamp, feature fireplace with electric flame effect fire, TV, Video and DVD player. Wherever possible we use low energy light bulbs.

There is a telephone for you to use, which is on an incoming call basis only- except for 999 calls and to the phone provider NTL, 0800 052 2000. Phone cards can be purchased at the Post Office to use on outgoing basis. The property is tastefully carpeted and decorated throughout with fixtures and fittings to a very high standard.

Picture Argument Cottage in Guisborough, Yorkshire, North England Moving through to the dining room, there is a table with four cushioned chairs, alcove and free standing light, radiator, shelf unit with an assortment of books and family games and an under-stair storage cupboard. This contains sweeping brushes, mop and bucket, iron and ironing board, drying rack and step ladders. There will be room for your luggage here.

The dining room connects directly to the kitchen, fitted within the last two years. It comprises:

Built in Diplomat electric cooker and ceramic hob
Storage units containing crockery, glassware and cookware
Stainless steel sink and drainer with combination tap
Hotpoint Aquarius washer/dryer and wash basket/powder
Fire extinguisher (above wash basket)
Blinds/voiles to all windows
Rear door leading to yard and waste bin
Cool Zone fridge/freezer
Rail with drying towels
Shelf and work surfaces with toaster, kettle, etc
Microwave oven
A comprehensive range of kitchen utensils
As part of our commitment to the environment we use environmentally friendly products wherever possible. Such as- micro-fibre cloths, ecover washing up liquid and laundry products and low chlorine cleaning products

The first floor is accessed by a short (but fairly steep) staircase. To the right of the landing is the master bedroom, featuring original door and antique brass handles. As you can see there is a bay window with built-in window seat, large washing basket and ottoman.


The luxury double bed has mattress and pillow protectors and fresh linen, as well as four under bed storage drawers. Two bedside cabinets with lamps, a drawer/dressing table unit with touch sensitive lamp and antique and full length portable mirror are provided, as well as a matching pine wardrobe with hangers. Soft furnishings are complementary throughout.

All of the upstairs rooms have a wall mounted radiator and a waste basket. A corridor leads to the second bedroom and bathroom.

Bedroom number two contains twin beds with mattress and pillow protectors and fresh linen, a bedside cabinet with two touch lamps, under bed storage boxes, a large shelf unit and cupboard containing Halstead combination boiler. Directly outside the bedroom is a small wardrobe with rail and hangers and to the left is the bathroom door.

The bathroom has been completely refitted. It has a bath with wall mounted shower attachment taps, wash basin, dual flush lavatory, wall mounted cabinet, mirror, shelf, radiator, towel rails and first aid kit. It has a four-drawer storage unit and laminated floor. There is an electric shaver point on the wall near the mirror.

The property is fully double glazed with particular regard to safety. Both bedrooms have windows fitted which will allow escape in the event of an emergency. There is also full central heating throughout and Combination Boiler providing instant and constant hot water supplies.

The newly refurbished rear courtyard contains a bench, bistro table, two chairs, a wealth of hanging baskets and potted plants for you to enjoy. It is a secluded, quiet and peaceful area to spend a sunny afternoon. There is also a lockable storage area which will accommodate wet clothes and 2 bicycles, as we achieved VisitBritain Walkers and Cyclists Welcome and hope you enjoy the wonderful countryside nearby using alternative transport. Directions
Travelling to the area via any mode of transport is very easy as there many links to Guisborough and the Tees Valley by road, rail, bus and air.

travelling by car/road links
Guisborough is easily accessible due to the fast road network linking into the area. From the north and south the A1 links onto the A19 to the A168 towards Stokesley then A172 to A171. Access the area from the west by taking the M6 then A66 which connects with the A174. The following sites will assist with journey planning.
