Picture Pepper House in Satterthwaite, Cumberland, North England Pepper House is a 16th Century Yeoman's Farmhouse, situated on a hillside overlooking a tranquil Lakeland valley, on the edge of this tiny village. The house is of cruck-frame construction, featuring enormous timber teams, thick stone walls and big fireplaces. It's an "off the beaten track location", with plenty of forest and fell walking straight from the door, whilst convenient for exploring the lakes and main attractions of the Lake District, including Beatrix Potter's former home, Hilltop, at Far Sawrey, and John Ruskin's Brantwood, by Coniston.
Guests are accommodated in three sympathetically updated bedrooms (one twin, two doubles, all en-suite); there are two comfortable lounges with open fires in the winter months. The dining room enjoys the spectacular valley view. Outside are gardens and terraces for guests to enjoy. Picture Pepper House in Satterthwaite, Cumberland, North England

Cooked Breakfasts are a special treat - you may not need to eat again all day! We offer a three-course evening meal in winter months (two courses in summer), which must be prebooked.

Satterthwaite is situated 1.5 miles south of the Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre, and about 4.5 miles SW of Hawkshead.

Approaching from Hawkshead centre:-
Turn right at the T-junction signed Lakeside, Newby Bridge. After about 1/4 mile, take the first right turn signed for Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre; the road winds up a steep and narrow hill. After about 2.5 miles, pass the Visitor Centre; keep going for a further mile. Satterthwaite is then the first village, Pepper House being the second house on the left, above a grass paddock. Take the next lane on the left, just around a left hand bend.

From the South (A590):-
Continue past Newby Bridge and turn right at cross-roads a mile past Haverthwaite Station, signed Bouth. After 200 yards, turn right at T-junction, signed for Grizedale Forest. Continue to follow Grizedale signs for about 8 miles. On reaching Satterthwaite, pass the Eagles Head on left, church on right, large barn on right (on a bend), then take lane on right, going steeply uphill; you will see Pepper House sign further up.
